I entered this field mid-life while in the midst of my own personal crisis. I have always been fascinated by the human psyche, what makes us think and feel and act the way we do. My crisis intensified my desire to more fully understand myself and others. During that time several calm, experienced, and clear-headed individuals entered my life - some of them therapists - and I was struck by what a powerful difference it made to have others come along side me at various points in my journey to offer their perspective and care. I decided I wanted to invest in a vocation that allowed me to do that for others while also continuing to understand myself better.

The Gooden Center
I did my practicum at the Gooden Center in Pasadena, CA and stayed to complete the 3000 hours required for licensure. In my 4 years there, I worked primarily in their intensive outpatient program (PHP and IOP), facilitating groups and working with client's individually. I saw over 100 clients all of whom were experiencing some type of crisis. There symptoms included neurodivergent burn out, grief, suicidical thoughts, substance dependence, obsessive thinking, compulsive behavior, suppressed anger, paranoia, mania, depression, anxiety, etc.

I received my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, California. While there, I was part of a small diverse group of students specializing in trauma.
